Horse-box & Horse Trailer – Chassis-Only Safety Inspection

Our chassis-only horsebox and horse trailer inspection focuses on the critical mechanical and structural components that directly affect safety, braking performance, and roadworthiness.
Inspection Includes

Inspection of coupling head and safety catch for wear and secure operation

Cleaning and inspection of ball-acting stabiliser pads (where fitted)
-
Inspection of breakaway cable, routing, condition, and secure attachment

Functional check of overrun coupling piston

Inspection and operation check of jockey wheel
-
Inspection and operation check of handbrake assembly
-
Inspection of brake rods, cables, compensators, and supports
-
Wheel removal to inspect tyres for wear, damage, age, and correct inflation

Inspection of brake drums and replacement of split pins or one-shot nuts* as required
-
Brake adjustment at drum and verification of free play in brake linkage and handbrake

Refit road wheels and torque wheel nuts/bolts to manufacturer specifications

Inspection of chassis condition, corrosion, and security of body fixings

Inspection of floor structure for deterioration (including ramp floor where fitted)

Inspection of suspension assemblies (trailers only)

Inspection and operation of corner steadies (where fitted)
